The Mae Hong Son hotels in Thailand shown here can normally be booked direct without the need to deal with and / or pay a Thai travel agent a deposit. Mae Hong Son is called the City of the Three Mists referring to the morning clouds which float along the three river valleys that converge on the town. Centrally small teak house bed and breakfasts, guest houses and even Thai family stay lodgings are available, while a small number of hotels, even resorts exist on the outskirts of town. Waterfall tours and hill tribe treks are all offered by the hotels here, some tour operators even have desks in the larger hotel foyers. Mae Hong Son is reached by a scenic yet treacherous road or by a short flight from Chiang Mai and the journey is well worthwhile. Many tourists snap up lacquerware bargains from Burma here as many of the shops are owned by Burmese. A splendid wat or temple with adjoining Buddhist monastery sits upon a hill above town from where on a clear day you can see all of the hotels in Mae Hong Son Thailand.
