Chiang Mai Thailand Area Guides
Chiang Mai hotel reservation agents normally require you to pay them a deposit, our direct Thailand booking service does not as you pay the hotels directly, normally upon check-out. With such a diverse range of Thai hotels, villas and resorts in the Chiang Mai area, guests are spoiled for choice. Holidaymakers can find inns and guesthouses along the Mae Ping River itself, budget hotels within the old walled city and near the famous night markets, plus luxury resorts on the outskirts of this Northern Thailand capital; private vacations rentals or villas are also sometimes available. Hoteliers here often offer bargain breaks and room upgrades, so it is wise to research the lodgings and their packages carefully. Chiang Mai used to be the Hill Tribe trekking centre for the north of Thailand, but now areas such as Chiang Rai / The Golden Triangle and Mae Hong Son offer more authentic tour experiences. The local restaurants offer everything from tree grubs to authentic Thai curries to western fare, and some of the best of these are actually in the Chiang Mai hotels themselves.
