Ocean and wave views from your bungalow... Great for surfers, families and travelers

Balian is a consistent wave and the way the bay is shaped it funnels the waves in making it break even if it is flat down in Kuta.
Balian seems to work best on a mid tide pushing in, early in the morning when it is still glassy. From the surf looking back to land you have magnificent views of the mountains and the million coconut trees growing there.
There are three spots in which to surf at Balian Beach, four if you count the main peak as two different ones, and where you go will largely depend on the conditions on the day, your surfing ability and what kinda board you ride.

The main break in Balian is an A frame peak that breaks left and right from the middle of the beach. The left is long and can connect with the inside left on good days. The right off the peak is a little shorter and tends also to be a little faster. It’s a pretty easy take off. Suitable for everyone but especially beginners, older chargers and long boarders. Go left or right at will. A good landmark to line yourself up with is the tall lone coconut tree that sticks out above the others. If you are right in front of that, then you are in good position.

Cross the river from BSB and paddle out just past ketuts warung where there are no rocks. This right hander is my favorite as it normally provides quite a sucky little ride that will “love you long time” and if you are looking to get barreled then your chances are better here than on the main peak. This wave tends to be a bit smaller than the A frame so there needs to be a decent swell for it to work properly. Line yourself up with ketuts warung (the little grass shack on the beach) or just to the riverside of it depending on how deep you want to take off.
It’s a fun little wave and definitely suites the short board. I like it cause there is often no one there which is my idea of heaven. Beware of the sheep though. Once some one see’s you get a sick one the whole pack will move over your way, so it pays to be wearing your invisible wetty!

Inside Left
The inside left is not to be knocked and funnily enough it often ropes in unnoticed by those surfers that paddle all the way out the back.

If you are looking for a good shaped left and lots of them, then this is the spot for you. Just walk down the road from the bungalow and paddle out more or less in front of Mades’ warung. Then paddle out a bit towards the horizon but not to far. Then, hang a right and start paddling towards the river. You’ll notice that there is a bit of a current here which can get very strong depending on wave size so try not to get sucked along the beach and out to Java with a one way ticket.
