Bali's Jimbaran Bay & Bukit Peninsula Advice Guide

Just south of the airport is Jimbaran Bay and the start of the Bukit Peninsula. In this case, the Bukit Peninsula is the hilly area that overlooks Jimbaran and from the other side, Ulawatu. Although, in reality, Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa are also part of the peninsula (but are dealt with separately here).

Jimbaran is most widely known for it's beach front fish restaurants, which run the virtual length of the beach. Being west facing, it certainly is a pleasant spot at sunset, and many of these restaurants are good. Be careful though, Bali is not known for it's superb seafood, but perhaps for "Bali belly". Besides the beach, there is really very little else, tourist resource wise here. Most people traveling into Kuta or Sanur for shopping / entertainment. Scenary wise though, Jimbaran, is very lush, with many tropical plants.

As you rise up Jimbaran hill then around Uluwatu you will see the vegetation change. The area being a lot less lush than the bay below. This is primarily due to the poor / rocky soil conditions. So, if you want plenty of tropical plants and coconut palms, it is time to think about another area! This area has an increasing number of private villas, often with spectacular views down to the Indian Ocean one side, and then to the Lombok Straights and Mount Agung (on a very clear day) the other. Again, there is very little in the way of tourist resource up here, with people having to drive into Kuta or Sanur, some distance away, for their needs.
